Biography

Andrey Stukalov was born in Krasnoyarsk in 1987.He received his first piano lessons at the age of six with one of the leading piano teachers in Siberia, Marina Boyarkina. Soon he took part in regional piano competitions and became laureate of the top prizes. Considering his success, in 2002 his family moved to Moscow where the young pianist continued his study at the Central Music School, class of Nina Makarova. In 2006 Andrey Stukalov entered Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire to study with world-famous piano teacher, Sergei Dorensky, whose disciples include, among others, Nikolai Lugansky, Vadim Rudenko, Pavel Nersessian, Denis Matsuev.  Andrey Stukalov is a prize-winner of nine international piano competitions in Italy, France, Germany, Romania and Spain.  Stukalov frequently performs in Russia and in Europe, solo and with orchestra. His wide repertoire includes, besides well-known works, a considerable number of virtuoso piano transcriptions, which are seldom heard nowadays, such as opera paraphrases by Sigismond Thalberg, transcriptions of Ignaz Friedman, Leopold Godowsky , Moriz Rosenthal, Paul Pabst etc.  Andrey Stukalov possesses an extraordinary ability to play very difficult pieces a prima vista. Thus, he is often invited to play the piano part in concerts by singers and chamber ensembles.
